Healthy Fortnight 2016

Our healthy fortnight is fast approaching and will include lots of fun and exciting new activities for the children to try along with Maths and English tasks linked with what the children have experienced.

Health Week 2015

Each year we hold a whole school ‘Health Week’ to help the children understand the importance of leading healthy lifestyles and to introduce them to a range exciting activities. This year we have had sports and activities they already love and enjoy such as making dens and exploring the outdoors environment in Coxley Woods or cooking healthy dishes and helping in the school kitchen.
Other activities are ones the children may not otherwise have the opportunity to try which this year has included skateboarding, yoga and parkour.

Inter School Competitions

We regularly take part in inter school sport competitions with other schools in the local area. These are organised and led by Young Sports Leaders at Horbury Academy. Our children have the opportunity to compete in benchball, hockey, basketball, indoor athletics, rugby, football, cricket, ‘Wake Up Shake Up’, relays and ‘The Cube’ challenge.

So far this year we have taken part in many tournaments including. Year 4 Touch Rugby, Year 5 Football, KS1 and Year 3 Benchball, Year 6 Basketball and Year 5/6 Wake Up Shake Up. We are proud to say we brought home the first place trophy for Year 5/6 Badminton.

Sports Days 2014

We have had three ‘Sports Days’each with their own style appropriate to the age of the children: Nursery; Reception with Key Stage 1; Key Stage 2

Nursery
Nursery enjoyed dressing up, sack and running races whilst their parents enjoyed fruit cocktails made and served by Class 3

In the other year groups, the children competed for their House Teams of Root, Ennis and Murray. Flags designed and made by the children led each team out and gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to each team member.

Team Root were the overall winners of the Infant Sports Trophy ( Yorkshire cricketer, Joe Root, tweeted a good luck message to ‘his’ team and Yorkshire team players signed the Root flag!)

Team Ennis were the winners of the Key Stage 2 Sports Day Trophy

A climbing wall and caving activity, martial arts and salsa dancing are just some of the activities we have had in previous years.
Sessions are delivered both by school staff and also outside professionals and coaches to give high quality experiences. Health Week is always lots of fun!
